Lobola App Calculates Your ‘Worth’

Ever wanted to figure out how much you are ‘worth’? The Lobola Calculator, a South African application that was made with the intention of calculating your lobola or dowry, can do just that.

Yes, we said it. Based on your answers through a basic and easy questionnaire, the app can easily tell you how much your future husband or wife should pay for you in cold, hard cash or animals and other objects. Don’t worry ladies, it’s not only for you. Men can figure out how much they are worth too, and if they don’t want to tell you, you could do it on their behalf! Don’t take this application too seriously, though. It is only for entertainment purposes and should not truly reflect the ‘value’ of a person in any way.

Questions you may encounter include how old you are, a rating of your cooking skills, and what your highest level of education is. It gets down, dirty and raw in this interesting compilation, and would make for a great addition to your phone. If you’re planning on proposing to your loved one, or even joking around with your friends, you can throw around numbers here and there to get an idea of what needs to be paid. Proud of your lobola price? You are able to share this amount on social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook or even Instagram. The option of which currency you would like your results in is available as well.

Earlier in the year, South Africans all over the world tweeted about the application, using the hashtag #LobolaApplication which drew international attention.
