EENHANA – The Ohangwena Second Division Football League received a trophy and N$5 000 from the Namibia Football Association (NFA) as this year’s best-administered second-division league in the country.
A sports personality in the Ohangwena Region, Zorro Mwandingi, handed over the prize to the Ohangwena Football League administrators during the region’s annual prize-giving event held at Eenhana last Saturday. The Ohangwena regional football league started with only a few teams in 1999 but about 12 teams are now members after administrators decided to get rid of the third division a few years ago.OSP wins annual Sanlam Relay WINDHOEK – The OSP sport shop won the annual Sanlam Coca-Cola Charity Relay held here on Saturday.Local runners Isaskar Boois, Willem Rooi, Salomon David and David Nekale, who ran for OSP, collected N$400 and sports gear for their winning time of 28 minutes and 38 seconds.The Namibia Defence Force (NDF) came second in 29 minutes and 50 seconds followed by the Quintie Boys in third place in 31 minutes and 08 seconds.Event marketing officer Quinton-Steele Botes said the 13th edition of the relay attracted 80 teams – 50 less than the previous year.He attributed the decline in the number of teams to a number of other events on at the same time.The money from entrance fees will be shared by charities such as the Love One Organisation, Nascat Aids Orphans and some primary schools on the outskirts of Katutura.Nampol beat Warriors in volleyball WINDHOEK – The Namibia Police (Nampol) volleyball team from the Khomas region beat Grootfontein-based Eleven Warriors by three sets to two in their Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) Premier League match held at the Luiperdsvallei military base on Saturday.Omutele and Six Stars did not turn up for their matches in the mens’ division.In the women’s division, Windhoek Sports Club (SKW) defeated Six Stars 3-0.In their second match, Six Stars beat the Namibia Defence Force (NDF) 3-2 but went down to Khomas Nampol in their third match 3-0.The official NVF log standing will be made public later this week, and the league will conclude on October 3 and resume in April next year.The NVF club championships are billed for Rehoboth early next month.David Sheehama and Ongha are Old Mutual champs OSHAKATI – The Old Mutual Far-North Sports Tournament crowned David Sheehama Senior Secondary School (SSS) from the Omusati Region and Ongha SSS from the Ohangwena Region as its 2006 champions in the football and netball categories respectively.The tournament, which started at circuit and regional level in the northern regions of Oshana, Ohangwena, Omusati and Oshikoto in July, came to an end at the Oshakati Independence Stadium on Saturday.Before reaching the finals, David Sheehama defeated Nangolo Junior Secondary School (JSS) from Oshana Region by 2 to 1, while Ongha handed their counterparts from Oshigambo High School in the Oshikoto Region a 14-12 defeat.David Sheehama scooped the football title after defeating Oshikango JSS 5-4 on penalties, following their two-all stalemate during normal time of their final encounter.Ongha defeated Gabriel Taapopi SSS from Oshana Region by 42-24 in the final match of the netball category.As the winners, the boys from David Sheehama SSS were awarded a photocopier, football gear, gold medals and a trophy, while the girls from Ongha took home a computer, netball gear, gold medals and a trophy.- Nampa Cape Argus entries close CAPE TOWN – After only 19 days, all 35 000 entries for the 2007 Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour have been filled and entries January next year, when a substitution system will commence, or secure a corporate bond, of which there are a limited number left.The entry system for the 2007 Cycle Tour works on a first-come-first-served basis, and riders will be able to influence their starting positions by participating in a series of seeding events around South Africa.Details are posted on the Cycle Tour
