Local tech shop first to spearhead PCB repairs in Namibia

A CELL phone repair company has partnered with local technicians to open the first printed circuit board (PCB) repair shop in Namibia.

One of the co-founders of the TechCare Group, Reggie Rumeta (30), says he started the business after graduating from REWA Academy, where he attained a qualification in PCB engineering.

Like many other start-ups, TechCare began while Rumeta was working from home.

“Along the way I learned to fix nearly every problem on cell phones, including water damage, broken screens and damaged charging ports,” he says.

The company is keen to provide small businesses with next-generation services that are both affordable and accessible. They specialise in repairing tablets, refurbishments, audio IC, laptop and phone battery replacement, as well as software updates.

TechCare was first established in 2010 as a sole proprietorship. Between 2014 and 2018, both Rumeta and co-founder Dos Santos Hindjou attended short courses at the Liaoning University of Technology in Jinzhou, China, to study computer science and PCB engineering.

In 2019, Sylvanes Rumeta joined TechCare as a director, with seven years’ experience in the ICT industry and the TechCare Group became partners with A-Solution Pty Ltd and BlackFog.

Hindjou says they recently expanded their footprint to Wanaheda in Katutura, to be closer to the market. He notes that the Covid-19 pandemic has forced them to be more innovative.

“The shop recently restructured to include delivery services for clients,” Hindjou says, noting that they are eager to expand further, either by offering career guidance to local technicians or by opening stores elsewhere in Namibia.
