Love triangle almost gets man killed

A man at Uupopo at Ondangwa almost lost his life on Sunday after his girlfriend allegedly invited him to her place – only for her other boyfriend to show up.

What followed was a chase, several gunshots and the two men interrogating each other, the police say.

Oshana police inspector Thomas Aiyambo says the man (30) received a text message from his girlfriend to visit her at around 23h00, when another boyfriend turned up.

The woman allegedly told him to hide in the toilet, since her other boyfriend is dangerous.

The man hid in the toilet as instructed, but after a few minutes decided to sneak out and leave the room.

The other boyfriend allegedly saw the man and started chasing him.

The suspect could, however, not catch up with him, and he stopped running, thinking he had given up the chase.

Minutes later he realised a speeding car was headed in his direction.

The man then started running again.

“The driver got out of the vehicle and started chasing him on foot, while at the same time firing shots at him with a gun. When he reached him, he grabbed him by his shirt and demanded to know who he was, and ordered him to get into the car,” Aiyambo said.

The driver, with his gun on his lap, allegdly drove straight to the woman’s place to question the other man, but soon after drove to another area, where he threatened to “deal” with him.

“He then called the girlfriend, who demanded that he let him go. He finally let go of him and he returned home,” said Aiyambo.

He said the suspect, who is known by the police, is yet to be arrested.
