Low turnout in Kavango annual cattle vaccination

RUNDU – The Chief Animal Health Inspector for the Kavango Region, Albert Muloho, has expressed dissatisfaction with the low turnout at various vaccination points since the annual vaccination programme started last month.

Muloho said livestock owners in the region were not co-operating by bringing their livestock for vaccination at identified points as scheduled. He urged livestock owners to bring their livestock for vaccination to prevent the spread of diseases such as lung sickness, foot-and-mouth disease and others. He said if the situation continues the vaccination team might not reach the 84 per cent coverage target that was achieved in the Kavango Region last year.”We don’t know why people are so reluctant to bring their livestock for vaccination this time,” the health inspector said.Over 100 000 cattle are targeted during this year’s vaccination programme.Muloho also expressed dismay over the devastating veld fires that continue destroying valuable grazing in some parts of the region. He said grazing has been completely destroyed in some parts of the region, resulting in livestock crossing into Angola to graze.- NampaHe urged livestock owners to bring their livestock for vaccination to prevent the spread of diseases such as lung sickness, foot-and-mouth disease and others. He said grazing has been completely destroyed in some parts of the region, resulting in livestock crossing into Angola to graze.- Nampa
