LPM files complaint against State House

THE Landless People’s Movement has lodged a complaint with the Media Ombudsman’s office against president Hage Geingob and State House press secretary Alfredo Hengari.

According to the party, their complaint is on the continued harassment of independent media houses, in particular The Namibian and the Namibian Sun.

“The State House security is on record for having harassed Jemima Beukes, a journalist at the Namibian Sun a few months ago. Hengari continuously issues statements of intimidation against journalists. This cannot continue untouched and unchallenged,” the statement read.

Media Ombudsman John Nakuta confirmed receiving the complaint from LPM on Friday afternoon and said he will consider whether they have jurisdiction over the case before any further steps are taken.

The LPM also said it would follow the public meeting between the Media Ombudsman and Hengari regarding the complaint the State House lodged against The Namibian.

“The party will also attend that meeting if the dates are announced,” the party said.
