LPM youth slams Unam management for alleged Swapo allegiance

The Landless People’s Movement (LPM) youth has condemned University of Namibia (Unam) management following an alleged campaign conducted by the Swapo Party Youth League at the university’s main campus last Friday.

LPM claims that this event took place despite Unam management’s discouragement of political activities on campus.

The LPM youth argues that the management’s actions unfairly target opposition parties while allowing Swapo’s youth wing to continue its mobilisation efforts unchecked.

In a media release, LPM youth wing spokesperson William Minnie accuses the university’s management of being a “spineless puppet” of the ruling Swapo party.

The statement pointed to recent decisions by the university to halt political activities across its campuses.

Minnie says Unam’s leadership appears more focused on securing favours from Swapo than fostering a politically aware and critically minded student body.

“Unam has disintegrated into a shadow of the institution it should be,” he says.

“We will conduct our own political drive on campus, unbothered by their cowardly threats,” Minnie says.
