LSD – The Dream Team

LSD is a new rap trio making waves in the Namibian music industry. Made up of Lil’Kiddo, Sweezy and D’angelo, the group recently released their 16-track EP titled ‘Dreams’ for free online.

The Weekender caught up on the clique to talk about their promising rap career…

Lil’Kiddo, real name Leigh Irving Williams, says the group focuses on making music for young people. Even though their genre of music is hip-hop, Williams shared that their type of hip-hop is different from anything that is out at the moment.

“We are relatively new in the industry and we want to contribute to the music industry as a whole by introducing a new sound. We are happy with how our sound is being received by fans,” said Williams. They try to fuse house instrumentals with hip-hop beats to give their sound a Namibian feel.

The trio built their friendship about eight years ago in Khomasdal. They credit common dreams for their longevity as a group and constantly champion one another.

“We grew up together and we have been talking about the things that we are doing now for years. Musically we know we need each other to achieve our dreams. LSD is a brotherhood more than anything,” said D’angelo.

In terms of business, LSD shared that the approach they want to take to use social media to promote and market their music to the masses. They aim to develop a strong following online which is why their first body of work was released digitally, on Audiomack.

“We live in the internet world and we believe it is much faster and to a certain extent cheaper to promote music online,” said Williams.

They believe it is very important to be active on social media, especially for marketing purposes. This tactic seems to be working for LSD, as their EP has been streamed over 4 000 times.

“A strong social media presence is important for every artist as it helps you engage with your fans,” said Williams.

Despite the challenge of not having a manager, LSD hopes to become the best hip-hop music group, not just in Namibia but in Africa as a whole.

“What keeps us going as musicians is that we are not afraid to dream big. With the right drive and hustle, we will attain this dream,” said Sweezy.

Look out for the group’s debut album later this year.
