Coastal music fans can gear up for entertainment galore when the ‘Ma /Gaisa Rumble at the Coast’ takes place at the Cosdef Arts and Crafts Centre at Swakopmund on Saturday.
After the highly successful ‘Ma /Gaisa Rumble in the City’ that thrilled patrons at Zoo Park two months ago, the organisers of the event, Hoadadi Trading, decided to take it to Swakopmund, which is generally construed as the home of ma /gaisa music.
“We were prompted by the success of the Windhoek event to have a coastal version. It is only appropriate that we take the ‘Ma /Gaisa Rumble at the Coast’ to Swakopmund, which is the rightful home of the popular genre,” Hoadadi Trading owner Sendelly !Gonteb says.
“Saturday’s event brings together the big name players of ma /gaisa music like Ou Stakes, Marvtown, Pule, Perciano, Max King, Desiree, Lorenda, and Queen Jaliza,” he says.
As was the case with the Zoo Park show, the dynamic duo of T-Bozz and Staika and the equally likeable duo of Raphael and Pelle are the headline acts of the show.
“People who attended the Windhoek version of the series will tell you that the event provided an unbelievable repertoire of top-class entertainment. T-Bozz and Staika showed why they are popular among the youth, while Raphael and Pelle reviewed their old magic,” !Gonteb says.
“Then we had the likes of Jericho and surprise package Dixon, who dazzled in Windhoek, while Jaliza put up a show-stopping performance people are still talking about. While Jaliza is back again, we have now added Kalux, Marvtown, Pule and Ou Stakes.”
Marvtown is known for his electrifying performances. The Windhoek-born star is probably the most exciting performer of the genre ever since he released his first hit, ‘/Gurisen’.
Having been born at Walvis Bay, Pule is well known and a crowd favourite at the coast.
His hit ‘/Ubab’ became a street anthem, while ‘Sa /Nami /Uiba Ta Ge #Ha’ and ‘Tae a Tsuba Tsi’ can still be heard on music systems around Kuisebmond and Mondesa.
Kalux is one of the standout stars of the ma /gaisa genre ever since his debut song, ‘Netira’, hit the airwaves and became a hit in early 2015.
Kalux has proven that he was not a one-hit wonder, and more hits like ‘Ta !Ao’, ‘Regkom Tani’, and ‘//Khoara’ on which he features Mooie Ngaro have elevated his reputation.
Ou Stakes does not need any introduction. Baptised Stanley Hamaseb, Ou Stakes, who was previously known as ‘the prince of Ma /Gaisa music’, is currently considered one of the top artists of the genre.
“Ou Stakes is currently on another level,” explains !Gonteb.
His hit, ‘//Khoaxase /Gui Ha’, has once again proven that the Swakopmund-based star is here to stay.
We all know his songs, like ‘Ti /Namsaro’, ‘Bobo’ and ‘Tsetse, Tsetse, Tsetse’.
The owner of Hoadadi Trading has also announced that due to the magnitude of the coastal event, the organisers have deemed it necessary to add an official ‘All-White Edition’ after-party slotted for the Sunday after the ‘Rumble at the Coast’ event to take place at Tama Beer Garden at Swakopmund on Saturday.
“The after-party will be headlined by the celebrated Matongo Family, who are making a welcome return to the stage and the multiple award-winning superstar Dixon – who will be dishing out live performances supported by #Nu Petru & Friends live band,” !Gonteb says.
He says phase 1 tickets were selling for N$100, but are sold out, adding that only 50% of phase 2 tickets, costing N$150, are left.
Tickets are available at Model and webtickets.
