‘Made in Namibia’ on this Saturday

‘MADE in Namibia’, a music show aimed at showcasing Namibian talent and what the country has to offer, takes place on Saturday at The Office Car Wash and Bar in Katutura, Windhoek.

Founder and organiser Sunday Shipushu, known as Namibia’s hikwa pioneer, Sunny Boy, says he decided to host the event again after receiving positive feedback from the public.

“The people had so much fun at the last event and for me it was great to see this happening. The event is for Namibians by Namibians,” Shipushu said.

He added it will also showcase new talent and urges upcoming artists not to let an event of this magnitude pass them by.

“They need exposure. Here is where they will meet potential sponsors and management of music labels who might be willing to sign them or work with them,” he said.

The ‘Young, Wild And Free’ hitmaker said the event is also a platform for artists to give back to their fans, something he believes is important as a show of appreciation.

“They are the ones listening to and buying our music. The artists lined up to perform are all talented and each one has something unique to contribute,” Shipushu said.

Artists such as Sunny Boy, Tate Buti, Diop, Ethnix, J-Black, Maestro and Murberry are in the line-up. They were specially selected because Shipushu says they are hardly seen performing in Katutura.

“The people from this location also want to see them. For me it was important to bring the artists to the people, because music is so important. There will also be a variety of genres such as kwaito, hip-hop, and oviritje amongst others.”

He says he decided on the venue because many people often find it challenging to attend music events at stadiums.

Singled out as not to be missed is the musical duo Ethnix, consisting of Etjo Kangumine and Julius Marco Hamwele, with their distinctive fusion of hip-hop, R&B, traditional elements and pop.

“Their music is very good and is received well by the public now. Their new album is also titled ‘Made In Namibia’,” said Shipushu. “It will be a fun event.”

It also aims to create awareness on the importance of unity as Shipushu believes it is essential for artists to work together and support each other.

“I want artists to come, network and just have fun. It would be a pleasure for me to show the world that our own artists can do a great show without anyone international,” he said.

The event will also feature dance competitions, album giveaways and plenty of food and drinks will be available.
