Man (20) remains in custody over rape of two minors

A Windhoek resident (20) who was arrested for allegedly raping two minors appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court in Katutura on Wednesday.

His case was postponed to 14 November for further police investigations.

A biological sibling of the accused man is among his alleged victims.

The mother (33) of one of the alleged victims said she has been left shattered by the violation of her daughter, who is 10 years old.

“Before we realised that she had been raped, not once but multiple times by this same man, I realised that she had been acting different. But I could not pick up what the problem was. In October last year, I was informed that she was allegedly found removing her clothes after she was ordered to do so by a 14-year-old boy who attempted to have sex with her behind a shack in the neighbourhood,” she said.

After questioning the boy, they were informed that it is a usual act that takes place between the now arrested man and her daughter, she added.

“Luckily, he had not managed to rape her but he did tell us that he had seen that act from the next door neighbour, who occasionally has sexual intercourse with her.”

The girl’s mother says when they took her to the hospital it was confirmed that she had been raped.

“I do not want him released anytime soon. I pray for justice to be served for my daughter and all the girls that were raped by him,” she said.

A group of children accompanied by adults from Goreangab in Katutura took to the streets on Wednesday to protest against the rape of children in Namibia.

Home of Good Hope founder Monica Imanga, who led the protest, expressed her frustration during the protest.

She called for justice to be served for the two minor victims.

Imanga said her concern is how many more minors have fallen victim to the same suspect.

“We are tired, two of our girls both aged 10 years old, were raped by this same man.”
