A man (30) allegedly hacked his uncle (94) to death in the Ohangwena region.
The police in the region opened a case of murder, attempted murder and malicious damage to properties after the suspect also allegedly attacked family members.
The incident happened on Monday morning at Onekwaya West village.
Ohangwena regional commander Ottile Kashuupulwa confirmed the incident.
She said on Monday at around 10h00, Joshua Kirus, identified as the deceased, was busy in his mahangu field before the attack occurred.
“The suspect in this matter is a nephew to Kirus. Kirus and his other nephew were going about their daily business around the homestead when the suspect came to accuse them of having poisoned him the previous evening. He shot his cousin with an arrow, and the cousin ran away to a nearby clinic. However, the suspect moved on to attack Kirus and hacked him on the head multiple times with a panga, sustaining head and face injuries,” explained Kashuupulwa.
It is alleged that after killing his uncle, the suspect followed his cousin to the clinic, where he started smashing the clinic’s windows in an attempt to get to his cousin. Nurses locked the doors, and the suspect eventually left.
The suspect was arrested, and is expected to appear in the Ohangwena Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
