Man in court over murder of street kid

Man in court over murder of street kid

A SECURITY guard is being kept in custody after appearing in the Mariental Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with the murder of a 13-year-old street child.

Frederick Thituthi Karimina allegedly shot and killed the child identified by the Police as Anton Saal.
The shooting happened at a plot near Mariental last Tuesday.
Karimina was not asked to plead.
His case was postponed until February 19 for further Police investigation and to allow Karimina to obtain legal representation.
Police reported that Karimina allegedly fired shots at Saal and other boys after spotting them stealing fruit at the irrigation plot.
It is further alleged that Karimina tried to conceal Saal’s death by hiding his body under bushes at the plot.
Police only recovered the child’s body on Thursday after Karimina directed them to the place where he had allegedly concealed it.
It is also reported that Karimina, during Police interrogation, denied having killed Saal.
Saal’s accomplices, who allegedly were caught red-handed stealing fruit, claimed that Karimina had denied them the opportunity to help their friend get medical treatment, the Police reported.
He allegedly chased away the boys and threatened to shoot them when they insisted on helping their friend.
