Man injures 95-year-old grandmother

A man (50 allegedly attacked and injured his grandmother (95) in the Ohangwena region on Monday at around 10h00.

According to Ohangwena Police regional commander Otillie Kashuupulwa, the wheelchair-bound pensioner had someone to assist her around the homestead, and her grandson, who lives on the Angolan side of the border, regularly helped her by going to the designated location to receive her pension money.

“This time around the grandson returned from Angola to find that his grandmother had sought the help of another female relative who takes care of the house as well as helps her collect her pension each month. This new development, however, did not sit well with the grandson who started harassing and assaulting the new helper,” reported Kashuupulwa.

On Monday morning, she said the grandson was allegedly physically assaulting the female relative, when the grandmother tried to intervene and was injured in the process.

The police said the pensioner was rushed to the hospital.

Kashuupulwa further said the grandson is suspected to have fled to Angola, and his residence was found to contain “an arsenal of dangerous weapons” including a panga, clubs, spears and arrows.

Police are investigating the matter.
