The man allegedly shot dead by a Henning Crusher employee (49) at Ondangwa on Friday has been identified as John Myburgh (43).
Myburgh’s colleague, who was shot and injured, has been identified as Johanna Richter (44).
This is according to a report by Oshana police commander commissioner Naftal Sakaria.
Sakaria says a case of murder and attempted murder, as well as robbery with aggravating circumstances, has been registered against the suspect, who was employed at the stone crushing and brick manufacturing company as a cleaner.
Myburgh was the company’s production manager, while Richter is the brickyard’s mechanical manager, says Sakaria.
Richter was reportedly admitted in the Ondangwa Private Hospital’s intensive care unit in critical condition.
Sakaria told The Namibian on Friday the suspect will appear in court on Monday.
He is a resident of Okakwiyu settlement at Oluno, Ondangwa.
The suspect was transferred from the Henning Crusher branch at Tsumeb to the Ondangwa branch in 2020, due to alleged misconduct in the workplace, according to Sakaria.
“He allegedly continued to commit further cases of misconduct at Ondangwa on several occasions and was due to sign a final warning. He was subsequently dismissed on Friday,” Sakaria said.
According to Sakaria, the suspect was called into the office at around 12h30 to sign his dismissal letter but he refused. He then exited the office.
After a few minutes, the suspect returned with a pistol in his hand and fired the first shot at Myburgh and the second shot at Richter.
Myburgh was shot and died on the spot, while Richter was rushed to the Ondangwa Private Hospital, said Sakaria.
The suspect then took Myburgh’s bicycle and rode it to the Ondangwa police station, where he reported the incident and handed himself over. He was arrested and detained at the police station, he said.
According to Sakaria, Myburgh’s next of kin have been informed.
A 7.65mm calibre pistol with an empty magazine was seized from the suspect, Sakaria added.
