Man robbed of bakkie at Swakopmund

The police at Swakopmund is seeking the public’s help in tracing a vehicle that was stolen at the town on Monday.

According to deputy police commissioner Erastus Iikuyu from the Erongo police, the owner of the vehicle, Melvin Araeb, was travelling alone in his white double-cab Toyota DG6, with registration number N20061S.

He was travelling from Swakopmund towards Henties Bay.

Araeb alledgedly noticed a silver Polo parked in the middle of the road at Mile 11 and stopped to assist, thinking the vehicle has broken down.

Four armed men jumped out of the vehicle and took his vehicle with all his belongings, including his iPhone, and drove off in the direction of Henties Bay.

Araeb has told the police he then walked back to Swakopmund, and called a friend from a service station, who took him to the police station.

The vehicle has not been recovered yet, and no arrest has been made.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the stolen vehicle, or who knows the suspects, is urgently requested to contact deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu at 081 246 4757, or detective warrant officer Samuel Auchab at 081 276 6844, or the nearest police station.
