The body of a 22-year-old man was found this morning after he was swept away in a flash flood in the //Kharas region.
//Kharas police crime investigations coordinator Chrispin Mubebo identified the deceased as Ben Henry Markus.
He said Markus and seven other visitors were camping at the Hobas Resort in the Fish River Canyon.
The senior police officer said the campers’ tents were erected in the river.
According to him, the river started rising rapidly around 21h00 after heavy rains, and its strong currents swept away the campers.
“While the others were rescued during the night, the deceased was only found this morning,” he added.
Mubebo said the Markus’ next of kin have been informed, and investigations into the tragedy continue.
