Christine Mboma has joined the American-based international CLD Sports marketing and management agency.

Mboma’s coach Henk Botha confirmed the news on Saturday, saying that they had decided to join CLD Sports to help market, manage and organise races for Mboma, following in the footsteps of compatriot Beatrice Masilingi who has already joined the agency.

“Beatrice already joined them last year and it has been going well for her so far, so we decided to give it a go and have now also joined them. We looked at other agencies before, but it didn’t work out, so I did everything on my own, but it became too much for me,” he said.

CLD Sports was founded by American athlete Chris Davis who now manages several international stars including Fiordaliza Cofil, a sprinter from the Dominican Republic who won the mixed 4x400m relay gold medal at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon and the Chilean decathlete Santiago Ford, who won gold at the 2023 Pan American Games. Besides them there are several others from around the world including the South African long jumper Peter Makgato.

Botha said they already started negotiations earlier this year.

“We already made contact earlier this year and had zoom meetings. Chris believes in Christine, he thinks she can make it again, so we will see what they can do,” Botha said.

Botha added that Masilingi is now also back in Namibia and has rejoined his training group after breaking ties with the South African-based Newton Sports Agency.

“Beatrice is back with us in the training group. A lot of things happened, I won’t go into that now, but it didn’t work out for her in South Africa,” he said.

Mboma already left Newton Sports Agency after a financial dispute in 2022, but since then she has been without an official management company, with Botha doubling up as her coach, manager, agent and marketer.

“I can’t do the coaching, the marketing and the management all on my own, it’s just too much, so I decided to just focus on coaching,” he said, adding that they are hard at work with their pre-season training, preparing for the 2025 season.

“The main aim for next year will be the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan in September. We are hard at work with our pre-season training and so far they both look very good. I just hope and pray that they don’t pick up any injuries and that they can run good times,” he said.
