Mbumba pays tribute to Hanse-Himarwa at funeral

President Nangolo Mbumba has described former education, arts and culture minister Katrina Hanse-Himarwa as a woman who lived her life magnificently.

Mbumba was paying tribute to Hanse-Himarwa during her funeral at Mariental on Saturday.

Hanse-Himarwa died two weeks ago at a local hospital in Windhoek after battling colon cancer. At the time of death, she was still serving as a member of the Swapo central committee.

In 2009, she was elected as the first female governor of the Hardap region.

Mbumba said the late Hanse-Himarwa lived her life dedicated to others and was a champion of justice, equity and unity, as well as a model patriot and committed cadre.

He further described her as a woman of substance, conviction, honour, faith, humour, warmth and compassion.

“Though the spark in your eyes is no more, you have left us with endless memories to continue to burn your light brightly through the ages. Today, your brave soul rests in eternal peace. Thank you my friend and young sister for being in our lives. We were privileged to know you,” said Mbumba.
Hanse-Himarwa was laid to rest among a six-volley salute during her official funeral, as conferred by Mbumba earlier this week.
