President Nangolo Mbumba has called for a peaceful resolution and dialogue over the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He said this while delivering his new year’s message at State House on Friday.
This comes as the Southern African Development Community (SADC) heads of state met in Harare, Zimbabwe, on Friday afternoon for an extraordinary summit to discuss the DRC conflict.
The president is not attending the summit and has sent minister of defence and veterans affairs Frans Kapofi instead.
Mbumba also expressed delight in Namibia’s upcoming 35th independence celebration, as well as the inauguration of the country’s first-ever woman president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
He extended his gratitude to all who assisted with drought-relief aid, adding that Namibia is not out of the woods yet and continues to be in need of support.
