Meet the Nam Legend

In the latest line of of homegrown Namibian brands, Phillipus ‘PJ’ Amunyela launched his own brand ‘Nam Legends’ at the beginning of the year, and he has been enjoying the fruits of his labour ever since.

The brand, which offers t-shirts, crop tops, leggings, car stickers and other items, is the brain child of a military police officer who suffered personal turmoil but chose to rise as the legend he knows he is.

He had found out that the daughter he had been raising for two years was not biologically his and was inspired to make a difference instead of retaliating in a way that would ruin his life.

“After what I went through, I thought about what I could do. I have seen a lot of men in this position who turn to passion killing and I did not want to go down that path.”

The brand’s logo, a lion head enclosed in a circle, was chosen to be that way because while growing up, PJ’s grandmother used to call him King, and he believes that the lion is the king of the jungle.

He says the brand is for all Namibians, even those abroad, and all people who know that they are legends in their own ways. “Anyone can wear this, the brand does not discriminate.”

He cites musicians Tunakie, Mushe, Bertholdt and Erna Chimu as fans of his brand and considers them legends in their own way.

The crop tops and t-shirts cost N$200, the hoodies cost N$450, the shorts and leggings cost N$250 while the dresses cost N$350.

More information can be found on his Facebook page ‘Nam Legends’ or Twitter as @AmunyelaPJ. He also makes deliveries if you see something you like.
