Mental Health Matters

The world marked World Mental Health Day yesterday, reminding us of the importance of ‘mental health at work’.

“Safe, healthy working environments can act as a protective factor for mental health. Unhealthy conditions – including stigma, discrimination and exposure to risks like harassment – can affect mental health,” the United Nations said this week.

While this year’s theme focuses on mental health in the workplace, Namibia, with its predominantly rural population, also needs to prioritise a broader understanding of mental health as a medical condition.

This will help reduce stigma and ensure people receive appropriate care and support.
