Mentally challenged man allegedly raped at Okandjeke village

A 32-year-old mentally challenged man was allegedly assaulted and raped by a 20-year-old man at Okandjeke village in the Oshikoto’s Nehale Lyampingana constituency on Saturday.

Police crime investigations coordinator for Oshikoto deputy commissioner Titus Ekandjo on Sunday said the incident occurred around an unknown time but during the night.

Ekandjo said the victim was on his way home from a local cucashop when he met the suspect, who asked him to go with him to a house in the neighbourhood.

He added that while they were on their way, the suspect started assaulting the victim and threatened to stab him with a knife.
“The suspect then grabbed the victim,” he said.

“The victim managed to escape and ran to a nearby house for help, where the home-owner reported the matter to the village headmen, who then reported the matter to the police,” Ekandjo added.

The suspect was arrested on Sunday and is expected to appear before the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
