Meryl rocks the Big Brother house!

WELL! Big Brother Africa 2 has exploded onto the screen big time.

And one of those pushing up the buzz factor is Namibia’s Meryl. She and Lerato from South Africa are the most talked about women on the show – for now, anyway.Loud or just sassy? Entertaining or irritating? Flip it.Depends which side of the coin you come down on.Opinions in The Namibian’s office are divided, but the pro-Meryl camp edges the irritating others at present.Whatever.It’s the love-them or hate-them characters that pump the reality ride. And our girl is representing big time.Gotta hand it to Meryl. She’s out there. As are her boobs. But more on that later.BBA is prime reality entertainment, and if housemates are just there to add to the decor, or be as inanimate as the red wooden giraffes in the garden, they might as well pack their bags and biggie off home.I mean, what’s up with Richard (Tanzania)? Does the dude originally hail from Prozac Nation? The dreads are cool, but can he speak? Has he even got a freak to get on? Or is he accessorising the furniture? OK, it’s early days yet.Maybe he needs to be relaxed out from under the locks …Time will tell. And is it true that Richard’s wife is 14 years older than him? That might just work out as a plus in this age of Demi and Ashton (a 15-year gap), though the revelation had Lerato and Meryl in hysterics.Apart from Namibia and South Africa, Ghana’s Kwaku, Code from Malawi, Kenya’s Jeff (‘I do 3 000 push-ups a day’) and Maxwell (‘the chosen one’, nicknamed ‘Fabio’ by Lerato) from Zambia are earning their keep. The rest – as pretty as some of them are – fall into the realm of supporting cast at present; but again, the show is barely 36 hours old.Viewers across Africa are holding their breath in anticipation.Back to our girl, Meryl, also known as Vuyeya, and the baby of the house at 21.In the short time she’s been in the house we’ve learned a little more about her.She speaks English and Oshi at home, doesn’t like greens and loves her Mum dearly – at one point late on Sunday night, as the action heated up, she said “Mum, sorry if you are watching.I still love you”.This was after some of the male housemates could no longer contain their fascination with her topside booty and nipples were suddenly thrust centre stage, even becoming the subject of a quickly composed song by some of the guys. They made the mistake of wondering if Meryl’s boobs were the real deal. She had no trouble putting them in their place.Apart from an occasional salad toss, like a certain Leo, Meryl is drawing a fair share of fans from across the continent, from Lagos to Durban: “Katutura is rooting for you”, “our own Namibian beauty” (Shaun), “go, Meryl, go, we’re counting on you” (Sporo), “I love you already” (Pieter), “South Africa and Namibia rock.Go girls, go”, “Namibia is the best and will always be the best” (Dylan G), etc.Well, one thing we do know is that if she doesn’t bring the big bucks home, she will be bringing the booty home. And, oh yes, Meryl said her Dad doesn’t even know she’s in the house. The pretty ones: Bertha (Zimbabwe) and Maureen (Uganda), but she should speak to the housemates rather than herself while pimping in front of the mirror. The sassy ones: Meryl, Lerato, Tatiana (Angola), Kwaku, Code, Jeff and Maxwell.Unknown quantities so far: Justice (Botswana), though he has tended to be a just a little irritating, Ofunneka (Nigeria), and Richard. The SMS messages rolling across the bottom of the BBA2 screen indicate that the show is set to be hugely popular – again.Fans are already saying that their decoders are “stuck” on 37, or that the addiction has started.* The BBA SMS number is: 15626; the Web address is: http://www.mnetafrica.com/Bigbrother; and, of course, the action takes place on Channel 37, DStv.She and Lerato from South Africa are the most talked about women on the show – for now, anyway.Loud or just sassy?
