Michelle McLean on top of the world

unWrap.online NAMIBIA has been trending, with former Miss Universe Michelle McLean featured on the New York Time Square Billboard.

McLean, who put Namibia on the map when she won Miss Universe in 1992, was named Top Humanitarian and Entrepreneur 2021.

On Friday, McLean reacted to the good news, saying anything is possible if one just has faith.

“Times Square! New York, New York! If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere. So honoured to be at the reveal today of my award as Top Humanitarian and Entrepreneur of the year for IAOTP (International Association of Top Professionals). I am proud to represent my country for tourism and investment with Namibia’s president, his excellency Dr Hage Geingob while at the UN General Assembly. Dreams can come true if you are prepared to work hard and always be grateful for all you have,” she said.

McLean is hailed a trailblazer and a philanthropist for establishing the Michelle McLean Children Trust in Namibia in 1992.

This foundation has over the last two decades started about 10 projects, including collaboration with international movie stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Michelle McLean Primary School has since its inception catered to over 1 100 children every year.

McLean has also established the Michelle McLean School of Excellence, which provides scholarships, entrepreneurial and financial skills training to thousands of students.

She has worked as a UNICEF ambassador for many years, alongside the archbishop emeritus Desmond Tutu.

McLean has also raised funds for the late former South African president Nelson Mandela and for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Trust.
