The Miss Namibia Organisation has revealed the top 30 semi-finalists for both the annual Miss Namibia and Miss Teen Namibia beauty pageants.
Miss Teen Namibia and Miss Namibia will be crowned on 7 and 8 July at the MTC Dome, Swakopmund.
The chief executive officer (CEO) of the organisation, Umbi Karuaihe-Upi, said following a country-wide tour, over 100 entries were received. She said the top 30s were selected a week ago by the vetting committee.
“We received about 50 Miss Teen and 50 Miss Namibia entries. This year’s entries are the highest ever. I am impressed with the contestants of both pageants. I know that the competition for Miss Namibia and Teen will be tough this time around. The girls are beautiful and smart. We wanted to ensure the pageant is a true depiction of what a national event should portray, as you will see from the Top 30 for both Miss Teen Namibia and Miss Namibia, our semi-finalists hail from all corners of the country,” she said.
Karuaihe-Upi said for the first time they received entries from two San girls – from Otjinene another Tsinsabis.
The Miss Teen Namibia and Miss Namibia preliminaries will take place at Droombos on 12 and 13 May. Tickets are available on Webtickets.com.na for N$700.
“The preliminaries form part of the journey to the crown, where the top 10 will be selected and announced as they make their way to the crowning ceremony. My ultimate goal, as CEO, is to provide opportunities and platforms for title holders to further educate and empower themselves and to promote tourism by showcasing the beauty that Namibia has to offer,” Karuaihe-Upi said.
The 10 judges will be revealed next week, she said.
