ZIMBABWEAN president Emmerson Mnangagwa says he is visiting Namibia to celebrate its 35th year of independence, to be part of the new president’s inauguration, and to strengthen the bond between the two countries.
Mnangagwa joined his regional counterparts, including South African president Cyril Ramaphosa, Botswana president Duma Boko, and Tanzanian president Samia Hassan, to witness the transfer of power from former president Nangolo Mbumba to new president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
“I have arrived in Windhoek, Namibia, to attend the inauguration of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as the fifth president of the Republic of Namibia, and the first female head of state in the country’s history.
“This momentous occasion also marks 35 years of Namibia’s independence – a milestone in the nation’s journey to freedom, development, and unity.
“I join fellow heads of state and government in celebrating this historic moment and reaffirming the enduring bonds of friendship and solidarity between Zimbabwe and Namibia,” he said in Windhoek on Friday.
