More Art Events Set For April

The month of April will see a slew of events take place across the country, mostly in the capital, as organisers strive to put on the best events yet.

The PstBet Windhoek Annual Cultural Festival (WACF) will take place from 27 to 30 April at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek under the theme ‘Where Art Belongs’.

The four-day event includes activities such as a cultural cooking competition, a battle of cultural groups, an eating competition, and the crowning of Miss PstBetWacf 2023.

DJ Zinhle and 2 Point 1 are among the international artists scheduled to perform at the event, which will also feature more than 20 local performers including King Tee Dee, Gazza, Manxebe, Wild Dogs, Chester Housprince, Azmo Nawe, and Mabuzza, as well as DJ Alba, Asserdeep, Dj Sepha, DJ Snoop, DJ Stizzo, and DJ Walla.

“Music comes to mind when we talk about cultural diversity. Through music, people of different races, tribes and backgrounds can express their own understanding of the world and in turn learn about the perspectives of others,” says festival organiser Sylvester Shapwa.

He says music has its roots in individual cultures, and highlights the importance of diversity in music in terms of breaking boundaries and changing the definition of what we know as music today.

“Cultural diversity is one of our core values, and by bringing in a variety of artists, including internationals, we can create a universal language, whether the listeners are from the same community or on opposite sides of the globe.”

PstBet WACF is an annual event that promotes and celebrates Namibian culture by encouraging social empowerment, cultural diversity and creativity.

WACF organisers have identified an opportunity to promote global acceptance and the embracing of the world’s diverse and unique cultures as part of global cultural diversity.

“Namibia as a nation has over 75 cultural groups that have not been unified in recent decades, and a festival of this nature is aimed at creating this unification by attracting and engaging a larger audience,” Shapwa says.
In addition, rising star Yeezir will be live in concert at The Temperature on 29 April.

“The event will feature various performances by Namibian musicians, with Yeezir headlining,” says event organiser, host and planner Ms Rou.

Yeezir will perform all of his songs, including ‘Pretty Vibes’, as well as a few new songs from his upcoming untitled album.

Another event, titled ‘Kasi Chill Saturday’, to be held under the theme ‘Old School’, is scheduled for Chicago’s on 22 April.

Royal Rich Events are the organisers of the event.

Event founder Juuso Uugwanga says this is the first of many events to come.

“The goal is to give underground and yet unrecognised artists, as well as DJs who are doing well but are not yet recognised, a chance to showcase their talents to a larger audience,” Uugwanga says.

This is also to provide them with a platform to present their art to audiences other than the usual crowds in their locations.

“It was brought up that we always use international musicians and DJs for our big events when we have our own.”

Bigger performances are expected from artists, including Kangweson, Zomblam and many other underground artists, as well as the legendary DJ Sky.

Wambuseun, Kamtonyo from the PDK, Page from Ethnix and Swart Baster will also make an appearance at the event, he says.
