Motocross thrills

ACTION … There was action galore at the fourth leg of the motocross (MX) held at Gobabis over the weekend.

The fourth leg of the motocross (MX) held at Gobabis this past weekend was the ideal event for some riders to prepare for participating in bigger classes next year.

Ingo Waldschmidt said the event at Gobabis was the last one for this year, and commended the organisers for the preparation of the tracks.

The event was also slightly different as the winner of the 85cc class, Juan de Vos, dominated his class with ease, but to get some more experience he raced on his 85cc MX bike in the 125cc class, and even there Waldschmidt said he stood his ground and won the second heat against the bigger class engines.

“The Gobabis tracks are very tight and more suitable for the smaller bikes, and one could see that he [De Vos] was much quicker on his smaller bike than those with the bigger engines in the tight corners,” Waldschmidt said.

His performance was quite impressive, but he must move to the bigger class (125cc) next year, Waldschmidt said.

Another rider, Zoe Waldschmidt, also made strides as she dominated the women’s motocross by leading the pack from the get-go.

She also competed against the 125cc juniors, and even here she made her presence known.

After six heats and taking part in the ‘King of The Dirt’ (KOTD), Zoe was exhausted, her father, Ingo, said.

She ended 19th in the KOTD class, which is male dominated.

This event drew 40 entries, and the next one will take place at the Gallina MX tracks north of Windhoek on 24 June.
