MP condemns brutal murders

SWAPO member of the National Council Margareth Mensah-Williams yesterday spoke out strongly against the increasing number of violent crimes against women and children in Namibia.

“We have a sick society,” Mensah-Williams said, referring to the brutal murders of two young women, Melanie Janse and Juanita Mabula, in recent weeks. She called on the public to provide the Police with any information possible that could lead to the arrest of the murderers.”I call on judges to make sure that no bail is granted to the perpetrators, and on the Ministry of Safety and Security to make the necessary budget allocations to provide for psychologists so these people [perpetrators] can be healed,” she said.Mensah-Williams then called on the Council of Churches in Namibia (CCN) to organise a prayer meeting “to ask forgiveness for these people.”She conveyed Council’s condolences to the victims’ families, adding that she hoped and prayed for justice to be served in both cases. The National Council resumes today to review the Insolvency Amendment Bill, and tomorrow to debate the Communal Land Reform Amendment Bill.
