MTC Cup semis at coast

MTC Cup semis at coast

OSHAKATI City will have a date with SKW at the Kuisebmond Stadium on Saturday in their semi-final match of the MTC Cup, while Ramblers will take on Orlando Pirates in the other fixture, organisers announced yesterday.

The ties will follow the quarter-final matches which were concluded at the Oshakati Indepedence Stadium this past weekend. The final will be played in Windhoek on the weekend of June 3 and 4.City will go in as favourites after they dispatched title hunters Blue Waters 2-0, while SKW recorded a 2-1 win over Eleven Arrows to make their way to the semi-finals.Ramblers came out tops with a 2-1 win over Santos, but their strength will be put to the test when they take on Pirates, who made their way to the last four through a 5-4 victory on penalties over Civics. The sides drew 1-1 at fulltime.City will meet SKW at 14h00, while the other semi-final will be decided at 16h00.Neither SKW nor Oshakati City is having a good run in the league and if either of them goes into the final, they could walk away with N$350 000 – if they win the competition – or N$90 000 as the second best team.Oshakati City will probably be the most happiest to add to their kitty, as they have been fulfilling their league obligations without a sponsor.SKW, who have the backing of Cymot, will also be happy to put their hands on the trophy since they are currently destined for relegation.A place in the final will be one of their most notable achievements in recent years. Both are assured of N$60 000 as semi-finalists.Ramblers are currently the favourites to take the tournament in June, but their current brilliant run, which has so far paid off well in the league, can be brought to a halt by the unpredictable Pirates side. Both teams have the manpower to place them in a position to clinch the most prized trophy in the country.Ramblers and Pirates will both be happy to go through to the final, as their opponents in the final, be it City or SKW, will possibly not pose too much danger for them.Football Results Sunday Social League Los Galacticos 3-3 Supa Strikas; Cross Country 1-3 Monate Fela; City of Whk 5-0 (points) City Rangers; Tura Giants 0-5 (points) TransNamib; Atletico 5-2 Rastas XI; Min of Finance 5-0 (points) ALC United.Fixtures: Thursday, May 4 11h00: Monate Fela vs City of Whk; 12h00: Tura Giants vs Min of Finance.
