MTC extends fibre transmission

Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) has extended its fibre transmission to 2 738 kilometres.

Spokesperson Tim Ekandjo, in a statement issued on Monday, said the extension will help unlock quality and reliable fibre services to Windhoek and coastal areas.

“The ability to continue meeting the market’s demands requires that we maintain, expand and optimise our network infrastructure. This allows for a seamless delivery of services to our customers,” said Ekandjo.

Ekandjo added that last year, the company deployed 1 377 km of fibre, and the deployment will continue in 2025.

“Investing in and having sustainable infrastructure is a material matter for a [telecommunications company] like us. Hence, the continued investment in capital infrastructure projects such as the rollout of fibre, among others,” said Ekandjo.

Fibre is a form of internet connectivity that provides high-speed data and unlimited streaming ability.

“Fibre connection is seamless and efficient in instant data delivery … [it] has little to no internet downtime. It allows users to concurrently download and upload files hassle-free. It is a technology that uses light and durable materials that are less susceptible to environmental factors,” said Ekandjo.
