MTC youth programme to inject start-ups with N$5 000

EMPOWERMENT … Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) maintains its commitment to equipping the country’s youth with skills.

The Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) says it is committed to empowering Namibia’s youth by equipping them with the skills and support to build sustainable businesses.

The company has announced the continuation of its MTC4Life programme.

Interested candidates will have until 27 February to apply to join the programme.

Some 40 young people from the Erongo, Hardap, Omaheke, and Zambezi regions will be given the opportunity to participate in a two-week training programme in a number of trades, including barbering, brick manufacturing, animation, carpentry, hair styling, electricity and solar, upholstery, as well as welding.

These courses will be taught by qualified Namibian trainers.

Upon completion, participants will receive a start-up kit and N$5 000 in capital.

MTC spokesperson Erasmus Nekundi says: “Since last year, we adopted a targeted approach of tackling a few regions at a time.
“This is strategically to achieve programme implementation efficacy, as we strive for a meaningful impact. Last year we covered the Omusati, Kavango East and West, Kunene, and Otjozondjupa regions, and now we are continuing with the new regions we haven’t covered.”

The programme is part of MTC’s corporate social investment initiatives, aiming to reduce unemployment by aiding young people to create opportunities for themselves and others.

“We have embedded in our business practice a culture of meaningfully contributing to our country’s social and economic development, hence driving and upholding programmes such as MTC4Life, where the aim is to reduce youth unemployment by imparting the necessary skills and giving the youth the much-needed capital to kick-start and grow their own micro-businesses,” Nekundi says.

Interested candidates can find more information on how to apply on MTC’s website and social media pages.
