THE recent launch of Make-Up Designory (MUD) in Namibia will “shake things up” in the country’s beauty industry said Brenda Botha, South African area manager of the brand.
For her, the footprint that MUD wants to leave in Namibia is so big that the industry will never be the same again.
“With the launch of the school and the training we will be offering upcoming make-up artists here, we will surely shake up the industry,” she said at the launch.
Taking place at Inspiration Tables, which took place at the Windhoek Show Grounds recently, the MUD launch was a spectacular affair where the brand was celebrated alongside Namibian fashion.
Fashion brands like Hapi XIX, Deon Angelo, Nikola Conradie as well as Jurietta Otto showcased garments that were gothic and extravagant for an exclusive launch that will go down as one of the most highly anticipated of the year.
The launch was a collaboration between MUD and local creatives from models, fashion designers to photographers who all brought the vision of the brand’s coming out party in Namibia to life.
“To all the artists, designers, models and photographers who rendered their services, skills and talents to make this an unforgettable event, thank you. We rise by lifting others,” Botha said.
At the launch, Namibian make-up artist Hannah Nangula was also revealed as the country’s first MUD brand ambassador. Botha spoke highly of Nangula, telling guests that the partnership was inevitable given Nangula’s exceptional work and consistent influence in the industry.
“Everybody knows how hard she works and we’ve all seen how good her work is so there was no question when we selected her. Who knows how far she can go with this. We’re hoping that she uses this to go even further in her career,” Botha said about the Namibian make-up artist.
An overwhelmed Nangula couldn’t contain her excitement upon the revelation. “It means so much to me as it’s going to open many doors for me,” she told The Weekender. As a brand ambassador, Nangula will be responsible for promoting the MUD brand to Namibian audiences. She gets perks such as a monthly supply of make-up from MUD as well as a fully stocked kit.
MUD was founded in North Hollywood, California in 1997. The company is dedicated to offering training in the fundamentals of make-up studies. In 2012, the company launched in South Africa, offering support and training to entrepreneurs who have a passion for make-up.
Although MUD already has dedicated distributers in Namibia, they are planning on starting an academy which will offer training to those who wish to pursue a career in the industry.
