Multichoice Namibia has officially launched the first phase of its Ombura local content project on Showmax, offering eight fresh Namibian productions now available for streaming.
The move highlights the growth and visibility of the country’s film industry.
The announcement was made at MultiChoice Namibia’s recent ‘EmpowerHER’ event in Windhoek, where the company reiterated its commitment to supporting local storytelling and amplifying Namibian voices in the entertainment space.
As an African streaming platform, Showmax provides a crucial avenue for Namibian film-makers to showcase their work on an international stage.
“Providing more Namibian content on Showmax is a huge milestone for us. This means we will be able to take our Namibian stories to even greater heights,” says MultiChoice Namibia corporate affairs manager Elzita Beukes.
Among the films now available under the ‘Namibian Films’ category on Showmax is ‘Die Rooftog’, a local comedy directed by Hildegard Titus. The film, which was exclusively screened at the event, has already generated excitement among viewers.
“I believe the production of this movie was so successful because I was carried by so many strong women,” Titus said, highlighting the collaborative spirit that drives Namibia’s film industry.
For as little as N$45 per month, Showmax subscribers can now enjoy a variety of Namibian films at their convenience.
In addition to local productions, Showmax continues to offer international hits like ‘Suits LA’, ‘White Lotus’ season three, and the latest season of ‘Adulting’. Football fans also have access to the Premier League on Showmax Mobile for just N$58.

Building on the success of the first phase, MultiChoice Namibia has confirmed that the second phase of the Ombura local content project is already underway. This expansion promises even more compelling Namibian stories set to hit screens by the end of the year.

MultiChoice Namibia managing director Roger Gertze emphasises the company’s dedication to hyperlocal storytelling.
“This year, we continue our commitment to productions that reflect the culture, language and realities of our audiences,” he says.
“Beyond storytelling, we are actively investing in the future of African film and television by training, funding and supporting the next generation of local talent. When Africa tells its own stories, the world listens.”
