Mushelenga praised for contributions

Peya Mushelenga

Minister of international relations and trade Selma Ashipala-Musavyi on Wednesday said her predecessor, Peya Mushelenga, made a significant impact by contributing to the advancement of Namibia’s foreign policy.

She made these remarks during Mushelenga’s farewell event, held alongside her own welcoming ceremony in Windhoek.
“You have made your mark in furthering the unfinished foreign policy business that we have between us and other countries,” Ashipala-Musavyi commended.

She highlighted that Mushelenga played a vital role in the ministry and contributed immensely to the institution.
“You have imparted your knowledge to the staff of the ministry,” Ashipala-Musavyi added.

Also speaking at the event was the ministry’s deputy minister, Jenelly Matundu, who expressed her gratitude to Mushelenga.
“It was not just working together; each and every day, one learnt many things from him and from his leadership style. I really appreciate it, and we will not stop here,” Matundu said.

Bidding farewell, Mushelenga congratulated the newly appointed Ashipala-Musavyi and expressed his confidence in her ability to lead the ministry.
“I congratulate honourable Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, a seasoned diplomat, for her appointment to be at the helm of the ministry. She is equal to the task before her, as she has served this ministry for a period of over three decades,” he said.

Mushelenga went on to thank those he had worked with during his tenure as head of the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation. During the announcement of her Cabinet on Saturday, president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah also announced the renaming of the institution to the Ministry of International Relations and Trade.
“I am grateful and cherish the support I have received, from the deputy minister, executive director, heads of missions, management and staff both at the head office and diplomatic missions,” he said.

Mushelenga served as minister for approximately 13 months
