THE Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund of Namibia has spent N$8,4 million on house modifications for individuals seriously injured in motor vehicle accidents between the 2015/16 and 2018/19 financial years.
Chief of corporate affairs at MVA fund, Surihe Gaomas-Guchu, told Nampa on Tuesday that the modifications were made to 98 houses.
“As part of the fund’s medical benefits, it modifies homes of seriously injured claimants to perform daily activities as safely and comfortably as possible while maintaining some degree of independence,” she said.
Home modifications include bathroom remodelling and wheelchair ramp installations. The fund has modified houses that belong to seriously injured claimants and most houses are in the Khomas, Oshana and Otjozondjupa regions.
“The financial year figures that have been provided are up to 31 December 2018,” she added.
Statistics on housing modifications and related costs indicate that during the 2015/16 financial year, the fund spent a total of N$2,1 million on 36 houses while N$2 million was spent on 28 houses during the 2016/17 financial year. MVA further spent N$2,2 million during the 2017/18 financial on 19 houses and N$1,9 million on 15 houses during the 2018/19 financial year. – Nampa
