Dan Kamati, who is the marketing officer at the Namibian Airports Company, talks to Chamwe Kaira about his job and his love for soccer.
DAN KAMATI (DK): My job as a marketing officer involves raising awareness about the NAC brand, and with my communications background, making sure that we respond to our stakeholders’ queries on time and with utmost integrity. I am responsible for our appearance at trade shows, both locally and internationally, and making sure that we have enough up-to-date content for campaigns. I also attend a lot to media queries on a daily basis.
DK: I have been in this position since October 2014, and before that, I was communications officer, a position which has since been abolished at the NAC.
DK: I have been to Ireland, England and South Africa, representing my company.
DK: The daily challenges – the drive to find solutions and work under pressure, as well as the interaction with people.
DK: I studied at Unam for a bachelor’s degree in Media Studies and English; then at NUST to obtain a post-graduate certificate in ICT regulation and policy. Recently, I obtained a new manager’s development programme certificate from Stellenbosch University, amongst others.
DK: I like football so much that I volunteer as media officer for the Namibia Football Association. My love for the game has grown very much over the years, and I really enjoy it.
DK: I relax by being in my space and reflecting on my life. I watch a lot of TV as well – nothing serious. Sitcoms and comedies are my favourites, just for a laugh.
