N$60 banknote launched to commemorate Geingob

THE Bank of Namibia has introduced a N$60 banknote to commemorate former president Hage Geingob.

Speaking at the launch of the banknote on Wednesday, governor of the Bank of Namibia Johannes !Gawaxab said the number 60 is symbolic, as it represents the number of years Geingob spent serving Namibia.

“Geingob devoted 60 years of his life to the service of the nation,” said !Gawaxab.

The note will enter into circulation in two weeks, to allow the bank to hold public awareness campaigns.

“Upon release it will serve as legal tender. However, we will only issue a certain number therefore [the banknote] is a collectors item,” said !Gawaxab.
