Nakuta’s term as media ombudsman extended to June

The Editors’ Forum of Namibia (EFN) has announced the extension of John Nakuta’s term as media ombudsman for an additional three months, from 1 April to 30 June.

Nakuta’s current term was set to expire on Monday, 31 March.
“The EFN initially planned to call for nominations in February but postponed the process to allow Namibians to mourn the founding father of the nation, former president Sam Nujoma, who died on 8 February,” reads a statement released by the EFN’s executive committee.

The statement further states that launching the nomination process at the time would have been overshadowed by the national mourning.

“Additionally, the extension will enable Nakuta to successfully conclude the 2024 Media Monitoring Project, which he initiated to assess media coverage – both legacy and online – of the presidential and National Assembly elections”.
