The !Nami≠Nûs constituency, the office of the regional council under the leadership of Susan Ndjaleka, and the regional council for the !Nami#Nus constituency has invested in a programme designed to address the obstacles around pursuing an higher education.
This is as financial barriers significantly hinder access for many young people, particularly in developing communities.
In a statement, Ndjaleka says: “In 2023, the councilor’s office made a bold commitment to education, allocating a total of N$268 480 towards student registration fees.”
According to Ndjaleka, the funding allowed students from the constituency to enroll at institutions such as the University of Namibia, the Namibia University of Science and Technology, Welwitchia Health Training Centre, and various vocational training centres.
“This sets a strong foundation for the years to come,” she says.
The !Nami≠Nûs constituency, like many regions in Namibia, faces the persistent challenge of limited access to higher education for its youth.
Ndjaleka says recognising the ongoing demand for financial assistance, the councillor’s office allocated N$70 000 in 2025 to continue funding registration fees.
“This year also saw the involvement of Seaflower Fishing Corporation, which contributed an additional N$40 500, demonstrating the power of partnerships in creating educational opportunities,” the councillor says.
The programme focuses directly on the initial step of enrollment, ensuring that financial limitations do not deter students from pursuing their chosen educational paths.
Ndjaleka notes that the initiative is about more than money – it is about empowering young people, breaking financial barriers, and fostering a community where education is accessible to all.
“With continued efforts and strengthened partnerships, the councillor’s office remains committed to ensuring that no student is left behind,” she says.
