Four students from the University of Namibia (Unam) and the Namibian University of Science and Technology (Nust) received a donation of N$216 890 from Namibia Asset Management (Nam) to cover their tuition fees, accommodation, textbooks and all other academic needs.
The handover took place at the vice chancellor’s office at Unam on Friday.
Nam chief executive Tarah Shaanika said he is grateful for the partnership between them, the students and the Unam foundation.
“The Unam foundation has done a great job since we partnered five years ago . . . We are committed to this partnership, not only with the Unam foundation, but also the partnership we forged with the students,” Shaanika said.
Shaanika encouraged the students to study hard to ensure a better future for themselves and stated that the handover is to ensure that they have everything they need to complete their studies.
The four recipients of the bursary scheme are Tangi Amushelelo, Rion Narib, Kristofina Akamwele and Irja Kaapanda, all second year students at Unam and Nust.
Nam has funded the students since 2023, and will continue to fund them until the end of their four-year study period.
Speaking at the same event, Kristofina Akamwele, a second year mathematics and statistics student at Nust, expressed her gratitude to Nam for granting her and her fellow recipients the opportunity to study without worries of where money for tuition fees and and other expenses may come from.
“I am grateful for the bursary, because it takes away so much worry from us and our parents … We truly appreciate your generosity and willingness to assist us financially with our studies,” she said.
Nam offers bursaries based on specific courses outlined in the agreement between the organisation and the beneficiary.
This targeted approach ensures that students receive support aligned with their career aspirations.
