Namibia in Numbers

Map of Mines in Namibia

The Chamber of Mines of Namibia 2023 Annual Report listed 26 mines in the country.

After three solid years, from 2021 to 2023, averaging an annual growth rate of 17.4%, the mining and quarrying industry contracted by 1.2% in 2024.

The contraction was specifically attributed to diamond mining – the largest subsector contributing 54.1% of real value addition in the overall sector; which declined by 3.7% in 2024 due to weak diamond prices and shifts in global preferences towards synthetic (lab-grown) diamonds.

Non-diamond mining subsectors saw marginal growth, although all off the back of an extraordinary 2023.

Uranium mining grew by 1.8% in 2024, from growth of 29.6% in 2023, while the metal ores subsector grew by 5.2% in 2024, from 27.8% in 2023.

Other mining and quarrying, which also includes oil and gas activities, grew by a marginal 0.4%, off the back of growth of 35.4% in 2023.
