Namibia inches towards a synthetic energy hub

Environment, forestry and tourism minister Pohamba Shifeta says Namibia is working towards establishing itself as a global green hydrogen hub on the African continent.

He was speaking at the Indonesia Africa Forum (IAF) in Bali on Tuesday.

Shifeta said Namibia’s green hydrogen industry will fuel the world’s needs.

“We have made significant strides in developing a green hydrogen project, alongside the recent discovery of vast amounts of oil and gas deposits which are geared towards supplying the global economy with a clean energy mix for hybrid applications,” he added.

The IAF is being held under the theme, ‘The Bandung Spirit for Africa’s Agenda 2063’.|

Shifeta noted that the main goals of the forum are to strengthen international resistance to apartheid and colonialism, as well as to promote socio-economic and cultural cooperation among recently independent African states.
