PLASTICS manufacturing company, Namibia Plastics and Packaging Distributors, has become the first Namibian plastics manufacturing company to achieve international certification for its products.
The company received certification as a manufacturer of materials used in the manufacturing of single service containers and closures for milk and milk products located outside the USA.
The certificate was awarded under the United States Food and Drug Administration certification accolade.
According to a statement issued this week, José-Luis Pretorius, the quality assurance and compliance manager said the certification has placed the country and the company among a list of only 38 certified countries.
The company is also the only flexible film manufacturer in Africa and the seventh company on the continent overall to be awarded such certification, he said.
“This certification further confirms that Namibia Plastics has exceeded quality and product safety standards as well as good manufacturing practice requirements by adhering to the strictest hygiene and product safety for food contact material requirements,” Pretorius said.
Johan Struwig, the chief executive officer said the company was evaluated by a listed hygiene consulting firm that recommended favourable consideration to the FDA board.
“We continually strive for improvement in every aspect of our processes and this certification just goes to show that we as a company can operate on the same level of excellence as not only European companies but also American companies,” Struwig said.
In June 2019, Namibia Plastics was also accredited with a global British Retail Consortium certificate for its packaging standards in the high hygiene audit category.
Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairperson Sven Thieme applauded Namibia Plastics for the certification, saying the standard held by the company is “commendably exemplary”.
“We see a proudly Namibian establishment grow in leaps and bounds, and developing into a manufacturer that is comparable to global leaders. I am thus not surprised at this establishment’s recognition as a leader in quality,” he said. – Nampa
