The Namibia Scientific Society, which was founded in 1925, celebrated 100 years on Thursday.
The society specialises in providing a platform for exchange and supplies information to local and foreign scientists and scientifically interested members of the public.
Speaking at the event, society vice chairperson Frank Wittenben mentioned the organisation’s contribution to society.
“The society is for the laymen, it is for people like you and me. You don’t have to be nuclear physicist, the Namibia Scientific Society is for everyone,” he said.
Chairperson Michael Backes said: “We are very fortunate to receive donations from members, non-members, as well as some foundations which are very fond of the work we do.”
Society chief executive Ruth Moldzio said the organisation plans to be known to many in the future.
“As part of our long-term plans, we plan to make to make our work more accessible by digitising it,” she said.
