Namibia will have a team of six girls and as many boys at the 2024 International School Sport Federation (ISF) Gymnasiade in Manama, Bahrain, which starts on Wednesday.

The Namibia School Sports Union (NSSU) selected the team during the National Athletics Championships held in Windhoek in May.

”The 2024 ISF Gymnasiade represents more than just a competition, it is a convergence of youth, talent and the spirit of international cooperation as athletes will compete in 26 different sport codes,” the NSSU said in a statement on Monday.

“At NSSU, we are grateful that we can provide these Namibian youth with an opportunity and provide them a stage where they can showcase their dedication, skill, and sportsmanship in a truly global arena.”

It will be Namibia’s third appearance at the ISF Gymnasiade, following participating in the inaugural edition in Belgrade, Serbia in 2021 and the under-15 Gymnasiade in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, last year.

The team leaves for Bahrain on Tuesday, and is expected to return home on Friday, 1 November.

The delegation is as follows:
Girls – Leena Ekandjo, Linda Ndemuta Hailulu, Kazaatjo Kambiri, Diana Valendelwa Kosmos, Liezel Mwiza Munyaza, Alexandra Veronique Scheepers;
Boys – Delano Apollus, Etienne Lombaard, Martin Nghililewanga, William Bartlo van Wyl, Burger Wilhelm Oelofsen, Lodewikus L’Wyk Viljoen;
