Over 90 sport federations’ leaders benefited from a skills upgrade workshop organised by the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) in Windhoek on Saturday.

The Presidents and Secretary Generals Workshop focused on strategies for enhancing sport development and participation; efficient management practices for sport organisations, and strengthening leadership and oversight in sport federations.

The initiative marks the beginning of a bi-annual series aimed at fostering good governance, sport development, and compliance.

“With over 90 participants from various affiliated federations, the event showcased a strong dedication to enhancing governance and development within the Namibian sport sector,” the commission said in a statement.

Additionally, sessions included topics on the Namibia Sport Act, communication, branding, and sponsorships.

“These topics were carefully selected to equip leaders with the knowledge and tools necessary to drive positive change and growth in their respective federations,” the NSC said.

“By hosting these workshops twice a year, the Namibia Sports Commission seeks to establish clear expectations and benchmarks for the industry, ensuring all stakeholders are aligned in their efforts to elevate Namibian sport.

NSC chief administrator Freddy Mwiya said: “We aim to foster a collaborative environment in which leaders can learn, collaborate, and tackle challenges together. Our ongoing efforts reflect our commitment to advancing Namibian sport.”

“With a focus on supporting sport growth and success in Namibia, the Namibia Sports Commission’s investment in leadership development is set to have a lasting impact on the country’s sporting landscape.”
