Namibia’s women bowed out of the race for honours at the Indoor Hockey World Cup when they lost lost 5-1 to Austria in their quarterfinal match on Friday.

Austria took the lead through a short corner goal by Katharina Proksch in the first quarter, but Namibia came back strongly and pinned Austria back for most of the second quarter.

The mometum however shifted to Austria in the third quarter when Marie Hahnenkamp and Daria Buchta scored in quick succession to put them 3-0 ahead, but Kiana Cormack gave Namibia hope with a short corner goal.

Namibia however could not maintain their pressure in the final quarter and Austria sealed their victory with goals by Katharina Bauer and Buchta’s second in the final quarter to give them a commanding win.

Austria are now through to the semifinals while Namibia will play out for positions five to eight.
