Namibian Blood Transfusion Service targets 150 donors at annual event

The Namibian Blood Transfusion Service (NamBTS) is targeting 150 donations at its annual blood drive.

This year’s ‘Engine Bleed: The Ultimate Blood Drive’ takes place at the Old Wheelers Club in Windhoek on Saturday from 09h30 to 16h00.

Last year, 90 donations were made at the annual event, said NamBTS spokesperson Salmi Shigwedha in a statement on Monday.

“NamBTS is excited to announce an innovative and impactful event that brings together the adrenaline-pumping world of motor and biker clubs with the vital cause of blood donation,” noted NamBTS.

The initiative aims to unite car and bike lovers and community-minded individuals in a shared mission to save lives through blood donation, the statement noted.

NamBTS marketing and donor relations manager Zita Tobin said ‘Engine Bleed’ is an opportunity for motor and biker clubs to channel their energy into something life-changing.

“NamBTS is thrilled to bring together the power of two dynamic worlds, the thrill of engines and the life-saving impact of blood donation… We invite all adventure-loving individuals to join us in this ultimate blood drive and make a real difference in the lives of those in need,” Tobin added.
The blood drive will feature live music, a vehicle and bikers’ showcase, a free hotdog and non-alcoholic beer for every donor, free blood group tests, community engagement and more.
